Police Report High Compliance With Presidential Order Ending VIP Escort Duties

T The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) says it has recorded a high level of compliance with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive prohibiting the deployment of police personnel for VIP escort and guard duties.

In a statement issued on Saturday, December 6, 2025, Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the Force Headquarters had set up a special enforcement team to ensure full adherence to the presidential order.

The team commenced a monitoring exercise at about 10:00 a.m. across major locations in Lagos State, including the Lekki–Ikoyi Link Bridge, the domestic wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, and other strategic points within the state.

According to the statement, the monitoring operation revealed “a satisfactory and commendable level of compliance” by officers and men of the NPF. No instance of unauthorised police escort or guard duty for VIPs was observed, and no arrests were made.

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to fully implementing the directive and redeploying personnel back to core policing responsibilities. He said the move is part of efforts to strengthen national security, crime prevention, and the protection of lives and property.

The Police assured the public that enforcement of the policy will continue nationwide “without fear or favour,” and called for public cooperation as the NPF advances toward a more professional and citizen-focused policing system.
