Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command are on the trail of some suspected armed robbers who invaded a house in the Onikoko area of the state and robbed some occupants of their belongings.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, said the suspects had stormed the community at about 2 am on Monday.
She said the three suspects, equipped with locally made pistols and cutlasses, raided a building and disposed of the occupants some items including mobile phones, laptops, Automated Teller Machine cards, and a sum of N30,000.
In her words, “According to a report dated 28/10/2024 from SUPOL Adigbe, on the night of October 28 at approximately 2:00 am in the Onikoko area, three armed robbers, equipped with locally made guns and cutlasses, invaded the home of a resident along with three of his neighbours.
“They made off with several items, including eight different types of phones, a laptop, ATM cards, and cash totalling N30,000. The value of other stolen items is still being assessed.”
She continued that upon receiving the report of the incident, police operatives stormed the area and sealed off the exit points into the community.
A search was said to have been conducted on the community leading to the recovery of a bag suspected to have been dumped by the fleeing suspects and containing some exhibits.
“In response to the incident, the Area Commander led detectives to the crime scene, where the area was thoroughly searched.
“A bag was found hidden in a bush on the grounds of Saint Louis College Onikoko, which contained one locally made gun, two cutlasses, some ATM cards, SIM cards, and three cartridges.
“After receiving the complaint, the Area Commander ordered an immediate effort to track the stolen phone. He has also sealed off the exit points after receiving a radio alert concerning a suspected armed robbery,” Odutola noted.
PUNCH Metro reported on Friday that the command arrested a suspected member of an armed robbery syndicate terrorising the Olomore area of Abeokuta North Local Government Area of the state.
The command said it had arrested the suspected member of the syndicate, Jonah Onah, at their hideout in the Olomore area.
Ofutola had said that the suspect was arrested following credible intelligence that led to a raid of a criminal hideout in the area.
