Police Arrest Female Accomplice in Gruesome Murder of Pregnant Nurse
T
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old woman, Somtochukwu Nwafor, over her alleged involvement in the horrific murder of a pregnant nurse whose mutilated body was recently discovered in a soakaway pit in Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Confirming the arrest, the spokesperson for the command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, told newsmen that the suspect confessed during interrogation to being the girlfriend of the prime suspect, Chiemerie Obika Elobisi, a native of the same village who is currently on the run.
“Somtochukwu Nwafor stated that she was called by the suspect to clean the blood stains after the victim was murdered,” Ikenga disclosed. “She further revealed how they sell the body parts to different evil native doctors in the area.”
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim, a trained nurse, was lured to Elobisi’s residence under the false pretence that he was in need of medical attention. The unsuspecting nurse was then murdered, her body mutilated, and parts of it allegedly sold for ritual purposes.
Acting on the information provided by the arrested suspect, operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) on the morning of July 29, 2025, raided the shrine of a native doctor identified as Nwafor Chibunna Ofornwatadile from Itima Amawa Village, Ogbunike. There, they recovered what are believed to be human body parts, hidden in cellophane bags.
The police have since launched a manhunt for Elobisi, as well as other suspected receivers and collaborators in the crime.
Reacting to the chilling development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, condemned the act in the strongest terms.
“This act is inhumane, criminal, and an affront to public morality and the sanctity of life,” the CP declared.
He further called on members of the public to support the ongoing investigation by providing any useful information that could lead to the arrest of the remaining suspects, assuring that the identities of such informants would be kept confidential.
In the face of such terrifying evil, a note of caution and reflection: In all you do, still ask God for mercy and guidance.
