Ogun construction worker found dead with machete wounds

A A construction worker, Segun Adebite, was found dead with machete wounds after a disagreement ensued between him and some persons at a construction site along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Monday.

The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a statement obtained by our correspondent on Tuesday.

Odutola noted that the site owner had reported to the police division in the area that the security officer guarding the site informed him that Segun and some yet-to-be-identified persons were engaged in a violent disagreement.

Following the report, police operatives stormed the site and found the body of Segun lying lifeless with machete wounds while those he had allegedly fought with could not be found.

“At about 12 20 pm, a resident of Iyana Ipaja in Lagos reported to the station that on the same day at about 10:00 am, one of his security personnel, Hassan, a local security guard assigned to the construction site near the Witch-Tech factory along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, contacted him.

“Hassan informed him that a violent altercation was taking place at the site involving Segun Adebite, a 34-year-old male from the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, and unknown individuals.

“Following this report, detectives hastily arrived at the location only to find Segun’s body lying in a pool of blood with multiple machete wounds on his body.”

She added that a blood-stained machete was recovered at the scene of the incident and efforts to locate the guard who raised the alarm about the incident proved abortive.

“A blood-stained machete was recovered as an exhibit, the body was removed and taken to the Live-Well morgue for an autopsy. The security guard who fled for safety could not be located or contacted for further information.

“A preliminary investigation has commenced,” Odutola concluded.
