Nigeria’s Consul-General in Cameroon, Ambassador Taofik Obasanjo Coker, is Dead

T The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the death of Ambassador Taofik Obasanjo Coker, Nigeria’s Consul-General in Buea, Cameroon.

In a statement released by the Ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the senior diplomat was confirmed to have passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2025, following a brief illness.

Ambassador Coker, described as a dedicated and distinguished career diplomat, served Nigeria with distinction in various missions abroad, including Conakry, Guinea, and Shanghai, China, before his most recent posting to Cameroon.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs extends its deepest condolences to his family, colleagues, and friends, and prays for the peaceful repose of his soul,” the statement read.

His passing has been received with shock within diplomatic circles, where he was widely respected for his professionalism, humility, and commitment to Nigeria’s foreign service.

Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in consultation with the Ministry.
