FCT Police Arrest Three ‘One-Chance’ Robbery Suspects Over Murder of Abuja Lawyer

T The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested three suspected members of a notorious “one-chance” armed robbery syndicate in connection with the murder of an Abuja-based legal practitioner, Barrister Chigbo Princess Nwamaka Mediatrix.

The suspects were arrested following investigations into the killing of the lawyer, whose body was reportedly dumped on the roadside after she was attacked and robbed of her personal belongings, including her mobile phone.

In a statement issued on Sunday, January 11, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said operatives of the Command’s Scorpion Squad tracked the suspects using digital intelligence.

According to her, “between 5th and 10th January 2026, operatives of the Scorpion Squad, led by ACP Victor Ogbeide Godfrey, acting on reconstructive digital intelligence, tracked the victim’s mobile phone and carried out follow-up operations which led to the arrest of two brothers, Saifullahi Yusuf (22) and Ishau Yusuf (24), alongside Minka’ilu Jibril, also known as Dan-Hajia.”

Adeh said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were part of a long-standing “one-chance” armed robbery syndicate operating within the FCT, especially during festive periods.

She explained that on January 5, 2026, at about 5:50 p.m., the victim unknowingly boarded a black Volkswagen Golf 3 vehicle along the Kubwa Expressway, unaware that the occupants were criminals.

“Upon entering the vehicle, the suspects wound up the tinted windows and threatened the victim with weapons in an attempt to force her to pay ransom for her release. When she allegedly refused to cooperate, she was physically assaulted and pushed out of the moving vehicle along the Kubwa Expressway, which resulted in her death,” Adeh said.

The police spokesperson added that the suspects confessed to stealing the victim’s Android mobile phone, which was later sold at Dei-Dei for N120,000.

“From the proceeds, Minka’ilu Jibril received N30,000, Saifullahi Yusuf received N15,000, while Ishau Yusuf and another suspect currently at large, identified as Musa, shared the remaining amount,” she stated.

The FCT Police Command said efforts were ongoing to arrest other members of the syndicate, while the suspects in custody would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
