The driver of world boxing champion Anthony Joshua, Kayode Adeniyi, has been arrested and is facing prosecution for reckless driving following a fatal road accident that claimed two lives on December 29, 2025.
The crash occurred along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when a Lexus SUV conveying Joshua reportedly collided with a stationary truck, resulting in the deaths of Joshua’s strength coach, Sina Ghami, and trainer, Latif Ayodele.
Police sources disclosed that Adeniyi, who is part of Joshua’s Nigerian logistics team, was discharged from hospital on New Year’s Eve before being taken in for questioning.
Investigators are considering charges bordering on excessive speed and wrongful overtaking, both of which are classified as serious offences under Nigerian traffic laws.
“Adeniyi has been arrested and will be prosecuted for reckless driving following investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash,” a police source said, adding that the case file is being prepared for court.
Anthony Joshua, who sustained minor injuries in the incident, has since been discharged from medical care and is currently recuperating at home, according to sources close to the boxer.
The tragic incident has continued to draw attention to road safety concerns on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, one of Nigeria’s busiest highways.
