The Fire and Safety Multipurpose Cooperative Society has inaugurated the second wing of its hotel at the Lagos airport.
This, according to the society, was to boost the revenue base of the group.
Located at Ewututu, an airport community, the new wing, a two-storey twin structure, is made up of four suites, 10 Executive Rooms, eight deluxe rooms and two staff rooms.
In his speech shortly before unveiling the project, the President of AFSMCS, Saheed Sadiq, said it was another milestone achievement in line with the investment drive of the staff multipurpose cooperative system.
While expressing hope that the hotel will serve as a beacon of progress and hope for generations to come, Sadiq commended every member for their dedication and hard work that made the dream a reality.
He said “This legacy project is a manifestation of the collaborative efforts of the industrial-based cooperators in the aviation sector comprising FAAN, NCAA, NAMA, NSIB, MMA SCHOOL, NUATE, ATSSAN, ANAP, and NAFSA”
Sadiq added that the vision that they shared with the members a few years ago regarding diversification of investment through shares holding in the hospitality business, has invariably yielded some dividends with the bulk of the trading surplus coming from the hospitality business progressively in every financial year.
“Inclusively, the derivable return on investment from the cooperative’s investments comes back directly to the members who are the shareholders. Also, by default, members that had exited the system by statutory retirement remain connected to these investments for a lifetime as shareholders.”
According to him, the investment in no small measure will contribute to the GDP of the country’s economy adding that the second wing project which was conceived in 2022 commenced a groundbreaking activity on the 12th of December 2022.
He stated that the facilities contained in the new wing are better improvements on the old wing with a Dry Riser fire safety management system, among others.
He urged cooperators, the flying public, and passengers among others to ease the high demand for hotel reservations around the airport vicinity with proximity advantage as it enhances a seamless connection of passengers to the airports.
Sadiq said, “What we are commissioning today is the finished structure as delivered with the electrical and other fittings including air conditioners fully installed in the respective accommodations’’
